What it is.

A HIGHER POWER

ON OUR COVER, MINERVA; ENGRAVING ABOVE, ZEUS. ENGRAVINGS IN THIS ISSUE COURTESY OF THE DOVER PRESS PICTORIAL ARCHIVES.

Apologies in advance for the art in this issue, almost exclusively Christian, as are the writers who joined us. We mean no slight to any belief or non-belief, besides which we wish they weren't so white.

Already we've heard complaints about "man" in "The Man Upstairs." We picked that title to see if anyone would object to the really objectionable part "stairs." No one did.

As for the debate on "therapeutic abortion" which begins, one-sidedly, on page 36, please note that it's not about religion and makes no reference to a higher power than our will to live.

A burden? Honestly, I never think of them that way.

CARRYING ON

Next Mouth takes a look at that other higher power, the saintly one whose special training allows her or him to choose for you. Deidre Hammon writes of phony options, and we'll see what scary things folks will do when somebody puts out an RFP. Please join us.
